Another Bureaucrat

The College has added a "sustainability director" to its payroll, the Daily Dartmouth reports. The new bureaucrat, Jim Merkel, advocates radically restructuring society so we leave a smaller environmental "footprint."

Yeah, but the guy lives on $5,000 a year! That would be trivial as payroll inflation...

Yeah, he only needs $5,000 a year, but what about his staff?

The College can afford to hire a Sustainability Director, and also more teachers for the ed. dept. (four, I think), but there's nothing for the speech department. Man oh man...

Yet while looking for classes for the Summer term they still have a listing for speech...Just nothing contained within. It's a damn shame.

Hey, if the guy can 'sustainably live' on just $5,000 per year, and his staff can do the same (without them wanting to camp out at Storrs Pond all winter), why not, just so long as he doesn't wind up panhandling on Main Street for spare change or pimping his secretaries out to frat parties?

Ask him if he can teach speech. If he can, bump his pay up to a cool $10k, maybe with a merit bonus of $500 for every student that majors in speech.
