Friday, February 28, 2003Dartmouth one point away from first round byeDartmouth took care of Rensselaer easily tonight in Troy, NY beating the Engineers 7-1. The reunited line of Hugh Jessiman, Mike Ouellette, and Lee Stempniak accounted for 5 of Dartmouth's goals. Ouellette had a hat trick, Stempniak had a 5 point night with a goal and four assists, while Jessiman added a goal and three assists himself. Nick Boucher stopped 34 of 35 shots to earn the win.The win combined with Brown's tie moved Dartmouth within a point of clinching fourth place and a first round bye in the conference playoffs. If Dartmouth beats or ties Union, they will host the best-of-3 quarterfinals in 2 weeks (March 14th-16th). If Dartmouth defeats Union and Yale loses to Cornell, Dartmouth will finish ahead of the Elis as well and claim the #3 seed. If Dartmouth loses to Union, they will finish either 5th or 6th and host the 1st round series against either Princeton or Rensselaer next weekend (March 7th-9th), depending on the outcome of the Brown game.
