Friday, May 10, 2002What Does Buffet Know Anyway?: Renowned investment guru Warren Buffet has recently predicted, at his company's annual meeting, that the U.S. would be the victim of a nuclear attack sometime in the near future. Such an attack, he said, is "virtually a certainty" during the next 50 years.Though I tend to share this kind of pessimistic view towards terrorism, I have to disagree with Buffet here. I would say that a nuclear terrorist attack on U.S. soil in the next 50 years is merely a strong possibility. I'm serious. Of course, this possibility may decline with a comprehensive program of securing loose Soviet nukes and a dismantling of Saddam Hussein's soon-to-have-nukes regime. Sadly, for now, this most important of all issues is one of the least discussed. (Arguments against myself and Mr. Buffet's views are, of course, encouraged).
